Excursion: The old volcanic neck in the Northwest

Description: We start near the Mirador of Vallehermoso. From here, we hike through a marvellous landscape of scrubs to the old villages HORMIGA and EL TIÓN. Next to fields and flower groves, we hike on to the bottom of the old volcanic chimney ROQUE DE CANO. After a break, we start our descent to VALLEHERMOSO and we enjoy the wonderful panoramic view. After we have reached the former cultural centre of La Gomera, the bus brings us to the Castillo del Mar, where we can revive ourselves with food and beverages.

Excursion: Forest of Fables (National park)

Description: Let yourself be enchanted by the rain forest of La Gomera in the north-western part of the national park! We hike on a very beautiful panoramic path until after about 1.5 hours we start our ascent. We pass moss-grown laurel and heather trees on our way through the oldest part of the tropical mountain forest until we reach our place to break off for a snack, Jardin de Las Creces. After having left the national park, we will enjoy the last part of the hike, passing cultivated terrace fields and fruit groves on our way to Arure. Here, we can enjoy the best cress soup of La Gomera at the Bar Conchita.

Excursion: The Green North
Days: Monday

Description: Hike with us into the eternally green north of La Gomera! On this hike we pass the highest waterfall of La Gomera on our way to the village EL CEDRO. After a short break we hike on through the national park to Aceviños. This is the starting point of an impressing descent into the green valley of HERMIGUA, which boasts the healthiest climate of the world. We finish our tour at a bar.: The Green North

Excursion: Tour of the Island
Days: Tuesday

Description: Join us to explore the fauna of La Gomera on a walk of about 25 minutes in the national park. After the walk, we ride by bus to the visitors' centre in Las Rosas and afterwards we stop at a restaurant offering food typical of La Gomera. After the lunch break, we ride on to the village Agulo, next we take a tour of the village. After the tour of Agulo, we go back by bus, passing the villages Hermigua, Chipude and El Cercado (the potters' village). Here we will stop for taking pictures. On our return trip, we stop for a short while at the restaurant designed by César Manrique.

Excursion: The jagged South
Days: Tuesday

Description: Follow us through the canyonland of La Gomera next to palm trees, agaves, fig trees and almond trees down to the deserted village Erquito. From there, we hike on a panoramic path to the plateau, which offers us a wonderful view of the sea. When descending into the Barranco de las Negras, we walk through a bizarre, almost alpine mountain landscape. Its precipitous mountain slopes show the unique structure of the island. After a short break, we start our ascend up to the pond Magaña on an impressive path. We finish our tour with a refreshing drink at a bar.

Excursion: The Rain Forest (El Cedro)

Description: Discover one of the oldest rain forests in the world! Accompany us on this botanically guided hike through the unique laurel forest. Starting at the crossroads Pajarito we climb the Garajonay, the island's highest mountain. Onwards we go through the lush green rain forest until we reach the village EL CEDRO. From here we ascend to the destination of the hike. (no stop at a restaurant)

Excursion: The Shepherds' Path
Days: Thursday

Descent: 250 m.
Description: The hike starts in Igualero. From there, our way leads us along the ravine of Erque, which presents us with a magnificent view of the Fortaleza. After a break we hike on, passing old houses and terraces on our way via Chipude to the potters' village El Cercado. Following the tour of the village we go on to Las Hayas. On this part of our hike we enjoy marvellous views of the valley of Valle Gran Rey. Finally we stop at Efigenia's, where a vegetarian five-course meal typical of La Gomera awaits us.

Excursion: Benchijigua - The palm valley

Description: The bus brings us to the Roques, where our tour starts today. From here, we descend into the valley of Benchijigua, which is guarded by the Roque de Agando. Passing agaves, figs and almond trees, we hike down to the place where we take our rest. After the break, when hiking along the old path connecting the villages, we pass through one of the most beautiful valleys of La Gomera. We pass palms and cultivated fields on our way to Pastrana, where the bus awaits us. After a refreshment in Santiago and the tour of the place we start our ride back.

Environment Preservation: Help us preserve the National Park

The National park is divided into various protected areas, each housing a variety of plant species

Keep in mind the sensitive animal and plant species in the nature reserve and please cause as little impact as possible

Do not leave rubbish of any kind behind you. Showing due consideration for the environment is the best way to protect this unique ecosystem.

Journey:

A one hour bus journey takes us to CHORROS DE EPINA, from where we take the high trail to the SANTA CLARA Chapel. Views of the Islands of La Palma and El Hierro from here. After a short rest, we continue our walk, past the palm trees and vineyards, down to the VALLEHERMOSO valley (also known as the evergreen valley).

Journey:

Today’s route starts with a bus journey (approx. 1 hour) to LAGUNA GRANDE, where the walk begins, taking us through the National Park. Here we will see bracken measuring up to 15 metres high and laurel trees of up to 20 metres. After 2 hours walk we reach the village of IGUALERO. The route takes us through the Erque Valley to the plateau at LA FORTALEZA (Guanche fort), which we may or may not climb depending on the weather

Journey:

We take the bus (approx. 1 hour) in the direction of the National Park, as far as the PAJARITO turn-off. From here we walk up to the highest point on La Gomera: Mt. GARAJONAY. After a rest we head into one of the oldest rainforests in the world, which houses botanical treasures to this day. Once through the forest, we reach the village of EL CEDRO where we will visit an old water gallery.

Journey:

We depart by bus (approx. 1 hour) for Olsen’s Cabin, from where we walk up through the bracken to the IMADA valley. The walk takes us through fields full of agaves, and fig and almond trees. We head for BENCHIJIGUA and then continue on to Pastrana, where the bus is waiting to take us to SANTIAGO (journey time 10 minutes).

Journey:

Today we go by bus to the ROQUE DE OJILLA viewpoint, from where we walk to the refuge at DEGOLLADA DE TANQUE. Towering above us along the way is the giant ROQUE DE OJILA volcanic rock. The route takes us along a stony path with a variety of vegetation, until we reach LA LAJA. After a rest to regain our strength we set off up an old native track, which takes us past terraced farm plots, with impressive views over the SAN SEBASTIÁN RAVINE, until we eventually reach the end of our walk at the Bar PERAZA.

Participants are taken by bus up to Laguna Grande (altitude: 1,260m), and then set off through spectacular scenery on a route which is specially chosen for uphill riding. The forest trails and small paths in charming surroundings amidst the mountains of La Gomera make this trip a unique experience. Biker Club: Advice, route information and maps. Those wanting to explore the island on their own can hire a good bicycle for a few days or weeks at reasonable rates. We will gladly provide information on the most interesting routes.
Guided tours: Mountain-bike tours for experienced climbers and advanced riders through the National Park and rain forest. We ride with you through the beautiful scenery, along stretches of varying lengths and degrees of difficulty, ranging from easy climbs to tougher routes for more experienced riders and diehards.

Our experienced guides will give you an introduction to mountain-bike riding and technique, and have loads to tell you about the island itself.

Shuttlebus: Bus service to Laguna Grande in the very heart of the National Park. At an altitude of 1,260 m, this is the ideal starting point for journeys.
